Theme Week Revived!

Over the summer we have "theme weeks" where I pick a theme and we read books, make crafts, bake snacks, sing songs, write stories, do science projects or take a trip if applicable and generally absorb the subject. This is something our whole family does until school starts. Once school starts we drop it because school is all consuming and we have SEVERAL themes to focus on....all but the twins. I have decided to start up "theme week" for the girls. They will not be writing stories but they can sing songs and do art projects. I am starting this week a day late but that is ok, trust me, it IS ok.

So, this weeks theme is going to be APPLES!!! I LOVE apples and apple art and apple books. I will post what what we are going to do and I look forward to hearing what you are doing too!

Here are my apple book selections....

The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall
Apple Apples Apples by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace
Ten Apples Up On Top by Theo. LeSieg
Autumn Walk by Ann Burg
When Autumn Falls by Kelli Nidey

The Apple Pie Tree is one of my favorites, the pictures are so sweet!

Autumn Walk is one of the best books I have ever read to my kids. The pages swirl with the most amazing descriptions of Fall like "air that is corduroy cold." I could read that all afternoon with a cup of tea and a snickerdoodle in hand. I have had this book since Tyler was a baby. We read it every Fall, I don't care how old they are! And when they grow up and move out I will call them on the phone and read it to them again.

I think we will make apple prints and an apple pie. I have seen several cute apple tree art ideas and I will come up with something. We are going to have applesauce for snack and learn an apple song. I can only think of Johnny Appleseed but I am sure through my Google searching I will find something! Happy Appleing!
