Tortillas

My Nanita used to make the BEST tortillas! From the time I was old enough to sit up she would let me "help" her make them. There are pictures of me sitting on her counter in my underwear covered in flour! She would make a huge batch of dough and then cook them on a hot plate on the stove. She used to tell me she had no feeling in her finger tips and that was how she was able to flip them without burning herself. Since I still had feeling in my finger tips I just had to watch that part!

There is nothing better than a homemade tortilla fresh off the hot plate!!!

I have been longing to have a fresh tortilla lately. Actually, I have had an aching in soul to make any type of bread lately but mostly the tortillas. I decided to try my hand at homemade tortillas the other day.

My camera is out of commission so I had to snap a picture with my phone.
I apologize for the quality of the picture but I am actually hoping it makes my tortilla look a little better.

I don't remember my Nanita's tortillas looking like a map of the United States...

I remember them being round, circular, orb like, sphereical...

My tortillas were not round at all but they sure did taste pretty good! I will have to practice a bit - I hope one day I make so many of them that I no longer have feeling in my finger tips either, just like my Nanita!

  1. I bet they taste absolutely delicious! And it's the taste that counts - not how they look. ;)

It made way more than 12 tortillas. Sadly my grandmother did not share her "recipe" - she just made them by heart.
