Monday Morning Message (in the afternoon)

I have started a bible study on Monday mornings with some friends of mine. It is a little chaotic because we have little ones running around but it is fun! We started a study called Mocha On The Mount by Sandra Glahn....it is pretty good so far. If anyone would like to follow along I will be posting every Monday with our thoughts, feelings, insights and musings on that weeks lesson.

The study is based on the Sermon on the Mount. Matthew 5-7. This week we did half of the first weeks lesson. There were some deep questions and some very thought provoking questions. There are some great scriptures in there! ( I know, it is all good but you know what I mean) The verse that stuck with me the most was -

Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

One of the corresponding questions was

"On what do you spend most of your time and energy. How do your priorities line up with those Jesus sets forth?"

So, we know that the root of all evil is the LOVE of money (not money itself) and we all think that as long as we are not Ebeneezer Scrooge we are doing fine. But as I took a deeper look this week I felt that there might be a little more to this... Where do my priorities lie? Where do I spend most of my time? Do I spend as much quality time with my family as I spend on myself? Do I spend enough quality time with Jesus? Do I try to serve 2 masters? WOW! That is a lot of questions! My challenge this week is to answer a few of them and to find where my priorities truly lie. I hope you will do the same and if you are brave enough please share them with me in the comment section!

  1. Those are some tough questions! I know with all the financial stress in my family's life right now, it's difficult not to become consumed by thoughts of money and remember to put your faith in God. I'm going to try and focus more on that this week!
    Thanks Caryn!

  3. I missed this the last time I visited your blog. Sounds like a wonderful study you are doing. Oh gosh, those questions are very pertinent to my life right now. I feel so busy and I know my quiet time with the Lord is suffering because of it. I have a problem with prioritizing and I think I'm trying to serve many masters! Thank you for bringing this to light.
